华裔新生代缘何青睐这座城

More than 6,600 young Chinese from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas regions flock into Jiangmen for research, internship and social activities

Why is this city favored by new-generation ethnic Chinese?

从中外文明互鉴交流平台、立体展现华侨精神的中国侨都华侨华人博物馆，到粤港澳三地共同记忆的“胜利大营救”海路登陆地台山都斛东滘口，从岭南人口头语“唔使问阿贵”源出地良溪古村，到“中华民族”概念首提者梁启超先生的故居，从世遗名片开平碉楼与村落到独木成林生态名片小鸟天堂，从大科学装置江门中微子实验室，到江港合作标志性成果江门双碳实验室……据不完全统计，今年暑假期间，一共有70批次6600多名港澳台和华裔青少年来江门参加研学、实习、联谊等交流活动，批次和规模均创历年暑期之最。

江门是中国著名侨乡、粤港澳大湾区“承东启西”重要节点城市，这里中西文化交融碰撞，形成独特的华侨文化；这里产业发展、科技创新、人文历史和自然风貌协调发展，是海外华侨华人观察广东乃至中国的重要窗口。今年暑假，江门充分发挥人缘相亲、文脉相通、渊源深厚的优势，利用暑期“百万青年看祖国”活动等契机，精心策划了文化、科技、产业、生态、社会治理等不同类型、不同主题的研学线路，组织港澳台和华裔青少年到江门研学，让他们透过侨乡之窗，更加深入了解祖国的历史文化和现实国情，厚植家国情怀。

According to incomplete statistics, more than 6,600 young people of Chinese origin from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas regions came to Jiangmen in 70 groups for research, internship and social activities during this summer vacation, hitting an all-time high in the number of both group and individual visits. They traveled from the China Qiaodu Museum of Overseas Chinese, a platform for mutual learning and exchange between Chinese and foreign civilizations which shows the spirit of overseas Chinese in a three-dimensional way, to Dongjiaokou, Duhu Town, Taishan, a sea-route landing location of the "Victory Rescue" as the common memory of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao; from Liangxi Ancient Village, the origin of a popular Lingnan dialect “Wu Shi Wen A Gui” (literally “it is beyond doubt”), to the former residence of Mr. Liang Qichao, who first proposed the concept of "Chinese nation"; from Kaiping Diaolou buildings and villages labeled as the world heritage, to the Bird Paradise marked as the ecology that a single tree makes the forest; and from the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory, a large scientific facility, to the HKUST-Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology, a landmark achievement of Jiangmen-Hong Kong cooperation.

Jiangmen is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in China and an important node city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), where Chinese and Western cultures blend with and collide each other to form a unique overseas Chinese culture. With its role of coordinating industrial development, technological innovation, cultural history and natural landscape, Jiangmen is an important window through which overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese observe Guangdong and even the entire nation of China. This summer vacation, Jiangmen made best use of its advantages in close interpersonal relationship, tight cultural connection and profound origin to design study tour routes of different types and themes such as culture, science and technology, industry, ecology and social governance, relying on the activity of "Millions of Youngsters See the Motherland" and other events. Young people of Chinese origin from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas regions were organized for study tours in Jiangmen where they could further understand the history, culture and actual situation of the motherland and therefore develop patriotic sentiments.

爱国侨史风云激荡

文化是一个国家和民族最基本最深沉最持久的力量。

江门侨乡文化是岭南文化在近现代的传承发展，也是中华优秀文化的有机组成部分。“家书抵万金”的侨批，“每逢佳节倍思亲”的乡愁，“没有国哪有家”的大义……走进中国侨都华侨华人博物馆，任何一个不经意的转角，都可见侨史风云激荡。

来自中国香港的暨南大学理工学院新生邓轩说，在这里第一次全面系统地了解到华侨华人对祖国和世界的重要贡献，深刻感受到他们可亲可贵的爱国爱乡精神。

1941年12月8日香港沦陷，大批在港进步人士面临危险的境地。在中共香港地下组织的配合下，当时的东江纵队历时半年，从香港分水、陆两条线路搭救了800多名文化名人到内地，被认为是“抗战以来最伟大的‘抢救’工作”。位于台山市都斛镇东面的东滘口，正是海上线路的安全登陆之地。在这里，当站在渔村码头，直面滔滔南海，聆听史料介绍，学生们纷纷表示，仿佛亲身见证了80多年前那场“胜利大营救”的惊心时刻，感受到当年中华民族遭受的艰辛不易。

此外，广大港澳台侨青少年通过参观陈白沙纪念馆、崖门古战场等名胜古迹，了解到侨乡深厚的历史底蕴，通过学习汉语、书法，制作茅龙笔、葵扇、东艺宫灯等，感受到中华传统文化博大精深之美；通过走访聆听宋代珠玑巷南迁领袖罗贵、“中国航空之父”冯如、“中国侨办民营铁路之父”陈宜禧、爱国侨领司徒美堂、革命烈士周文雍等侨乡名人故事，以及台山华侨与“飞虎队”抗战史迹，深深体悟了他们先行先试、勇于开拓的精神，艰苦奋斗、自立自强的品格，拼搏进取、勇立潮头的魄力，情牵桑梓、心系祖国的情怀。

Magnificent history of patriotic overseas Chinese

Culture is the most fundamental, profound and enduring power of a country and a nation.

The culture of overseas Chinese hometown in Jiangmen is the inheritance and development of the Lingnan culture in modern times. It is also an organic part of fine Chinese culture. In the China Qiaodu Museum of Overseas Chinese, there are overseas Chinese remittances and letters “worth ten thousand pieces of gold”, the homesickness which “amplifies in every festival” and the righteous concept of “no country, no home”. The magnificent history of overseas Chinese can be seen casually at every corner.

Deng Xuan, a freshman in the College of Science and Technology of Jinan University from Hong Kong, said that this is the first time for him to comprehensively and systematically understand the important contributions made by overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese to the motherland and the world. Here, he deeply felt their amiable and valuable patriotic spirit.

After the fall of Hong Kong on December 8, 1941, a large number of progressives in Hong Kong are in severe danger. With the cooperation of the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s underground organization in Hong Kong, the Dongjiang Column rescued more than 800 cultural celebrities and brought them to the mainland via Hong Kong's water and land routes in half a year. This was called "the greatest 'rescue' since the Anti-Japanese War of Resistance began". Dongjiaokou, located to the east of Duhu Town, Taishan, was exactly a safe landing place in the sea route. Standing at the dock of the fishing village and facing the surging water of the South China Sea, these students listened to the presentation of historical materials, and said that they seemed to have personally witnessed the heart-stopping moment of the "Victory Rescue" more than 80 years ago and felt the sufferings of the Chinese nation at that time.

Besides, these young people learned the profound history of the overseas Chinese hometown by visiting the Chen Baisha Memorial Hall, the Yamen Ancient Battlefield and other historical sites; and appreciated the great beauty of traditional Chinese culture by learning the Chinese language and calligraphy and by making Maolong brushes, palm-leaf fans and Dongyi palace lamps. They listened to stories of overseas Chinese celebrities, such as Luo Gui, a southward migration leader in Zhuji Lane of the Song Dynasty; Feng Ru, the "Father of Chinese Aviation"; Chen Yixi, the "Father of the Private Railway by Overseas Chinese"; Situ Meitang, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader; and Zhou Wenyong, a revolutionary martyr. They also visited historical sites where Taishan overseas Chinese and the American Volunteer Group or Flying Tigers fought side by side during the Anti-Japanese War of Resistance. Young visitors have thus deeply felt the ioneering spirit, the character of hard work and self-reliance, the courage of struggle and aggression, and the attachment to the hometown and the motherland of their predecessors.

大国重器令人震撼

科学技术是一个国家综合国力的重要体现。

江门市精心安排港澳台侨青少年走进大科学装置、科普基地、现代化高科技企业等，让港澳台侨青年感受祖国科技进步的成果。

捕获“幽灵粒子”中微子、测量中微子的质量顺序、探测宇宙起源奥秘……位于开平地下700米深处的“国之重器”——江门中微子实验室，是由中国科学院和广东省共同建设的大科学装置，预计2024年建成运行。在这里，当大家来到其核心探测设备安装现场，见到直径41米的不锈钢框架、世界上最大的单体有机玻璃结构——直径35.4米、壁厚120毫米、重600多吨的有机玻璃球，无不大呼震撼，均惊奇宇宙奥妙的同时，也为祖国蒸蒸日上的科技进步感到自豪。

江门市与香港科技大学（广州）共建的江门双碳实验室，在全省率先构建“双碳实验室+双碳产业园”政产学研融通发展新模式。参观完后，港澳台侨青少年们表示，更加了解了何谓“双碳”目标，也认识到中国对保护地球家园这件事的认真负责程度。“我还更深刻的理解了科教兴国的意义，感受到祖国在推动高水平科技自立自强上实现的新突破。”来自中国香港的暨大学生黄宝贤说。

除此之外，港澳台侨青少年们还走进江门智慧安全应急联合实验室、台山核电厂、全球最大宽扁浅吃水型半潜驳船“四航永兴”号制造现场和部分现代化高科技企业车间，感受江门科技项目、科技企业的魅力和服务国家创新驱动发展战略的担当。

Astonishing pillars of great power

Science and technology are an important indicator of a country's comprehensive strength.

These young people saw achievements in the motherland’s technological progress by visiting large science facilities, popular science bases, modern high-tech enterprises, etc., all were carefully arranged by Jiangmen.

Capturing "ghost particles" - neutrinos, measuring the mass order of neutrinos and probing the secret origin of the universe…Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory, a “pillar of great power” located 700 meters underground in Kaiping, is a large scientific facility jointly built by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangdong. It will be completed and operational in 2024. Here, young visitors marveled at the stainless-steel frame of 41 meters in diameter and the world’s largest single plexiglass structure – a plexiglass ball with the diameter of 35.4 meters, the wall thickness of 120 millimeters and the weight of more than 600 tons – in the installation site of core detection equipment. Being stunned at the mysteries of the universe, they were proud of the thriving technological progress of the motherland.

The HKUST-Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology, which was jointly built by Jiangmen and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), established the province’s first new model of “dual-carbon lab + dual-carbon industrial park”, which integrates the government, industry, teaching and research. After the visit, these young people said that they had a better understanding of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, and realized how serious China is in the protection of the earth. "I have further understood the significance of rejuvenating the country through science and education, and felt the new breakthroughs made by the motherland in promoting high-level technological self-reliance," said Huang Baoxian, a Hong Kong student of Jinan University.

In addition, young visitors came to the Jiangmen Intelligent Security & Emergency Joint Laboratory, Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, the manufacturing site of "Sihang Yongxing", the largest flat shallow-draught semi-submersible transport barge in the world, and some modern high-tech enterprise workshops to feel the charm of science and technology projects and high-tech enterprises in Jiangmen, as well as their responsibility for serving the national strategy of innovation-driven development.

先进制造汇聚目光

现代化产业体系是高质量发展的重要基础。

当前的江门，坚持实体经济为本、制造业当家，勇当全省新一轮制造业高质量发展主力军和主战场。在智能工业等产业主题线路，港澳台侨青少年们立体感受到江门市先进制造业的魅力。

在广东富华重工制造有限公司，当了解到富华集团致力于推动智能制造与科技创新，拥有1100余项专利，他们表示开阔了眼界，见识到祖国现代化工业的实力。

在李锦记新会生产基地、无限极（中国）有限公司、海目星激光工业园、中车广东轨道交通车辆有限公司等企业的现代化车间，他们在目睹工作人员致力于推动精密制造、智能制造而激情付出的场景后纷纷表示，要努力学习专业知识，将来投身到粤港澳大湾区建设热潮中。澳门江门青年会会员余世康说：“到江门亲身了解到包括李锦记集团在内的企业，看到他们结合科技及时代需要，建成走在工业革命4.0前沿的现代化厂房，很受震撼，为祖国的工业实力感到骄傲。”

此外，港澳台侨青少年还相继到江门最新布局的硅能源、新能源电池、新型储能、盾构机、传感器、安全应急、智慧农机、政法社会治理智能装备等新领域、新赛道产业企业参观走访，体验江门市制造业高质量发展成果。

Eye-catching advanced manufacturing

The modern industrial system is an important foundation for high-quality development.

Taking the real economy as the foundation and the manufacturing industry as the pillar, Jiangmen is trying to become a key force and main venue in the new round of high-quality development of manufacturing in Guangdong. Walking along the theme routes of intelligence and other industries, these young people felt the charm of advanced manufacturing in Jiangmen in an all-round way.

At Guangdong Fuwa Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., young visitors said they have broadened their horizons and seen the strength of the modern industry of the motherland after learning that Fuwa Group is committed to promoting intelligent manufacturing and technological innovation and has obtained more than 1,100 patents.

After witnessing the passionate contributions to precision manufacturing and intelligent manufacturing made by the staff at modern workshops of Li Kum Kee Xinhui production base, Infinitus (China) Co., Ltd., Hymson Laser Industrial Park, CRRC Guangdong Rail Transit Vehicle Co., Ltd., young visitors said they would work hard to acquire professional knowledge and plunge into the upsurging construction of the GBA. Yu Shikang, a member of the Macau Association of Jiangmen Youths, said: "I was deeply impressed after visiting enterprises including Lee Kum Kee Group in Jiangmen and seeing they have built modern workshops at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by combining technologies and the needs of the times. I was very proud of the industrial strength of the motherland."

Moreover, young visitors explored industrial enterprises involved in new fields and tracks of silicon energy, new energy batteries, new energy storage, shield tunneling machines, sensors, security & emergency, smart agricultural machinery, intelligent equipment for political, legal and social governance, etc. to experience the achievements of high-quality development of manufacturing in Jiangmen.

绿美生态让人难忘

生态兴则文明兴。

山灵水秀、生态宜居的江门，当前正进一步加强生态文明建设，实现人与自然和谐共生，打造居者自豪来者依恋的幸福家园。在生态主题研学路线，港澳台和华裔青少年们在城市“300米见绿、500米见园”“出门满眼绿，归来一身香”；在乡村，沿途随处可见青山隐隐、绿水迢迢，以及各具特色的美丽乡村，尽情感受侨乡绿美生态和谐之美。

独木成林、万鹭齐飞。位于新会区天马村的小鸟天堂，因著名作家巴

金的散文名篇《鸟的天堂》闻名遐迩，是侨乡江门一张靓丽的生态名片、文旅名片。港澳台和华裔青少年纷纷表示，在这里聆听小鸟和鸣谐调的天籁之声，感受如画美景与自然和谐之趣，更加直观地了解到“绿水青山就是金山银山”理念的深刻内涵，看到了新时代中国“人与自然和谐共生之典范”。

位于开平的“邑美侨乡 世遗风韵”乡村示范带全长30公里，串联塘口、赤坎及百合3个世界文化遗产特色名镇，涵盖18个行政村。在这里，大家用脚步丈量土地，既感受到中西文化交融的魅力，也见识到农业强、农村美、农民富的当代乡村景象，有同学表示此行让人难忘，自己也要像香港青年罗伟特在开平做“鱼菜共生”项目一样，把自己的中国梦也落到侨乡农村大地。

Unforgettable green and beautiful ecology

Civilization will prosper as the ecology improves.

Jiangmen, a beautiful and livable city, is pushing ahead with ecological civilization for harmonious coexistence between man and nature and creating a happy homeland where local residents feel proud and newcomers are reluctant to leave. Along the theme route of ecological tours, young visitors were surrounded by green trees and fragrant flowers in the city where there are trees every 300 meters and a park every 500 meters. In the countryside, they saw green hills, clear waters and beautiful villages with distinct features, and enjoyed the beauty of green and ecological harmony in the hometown of overseas Chinese.

A single tree makes the forest, with thousands of herons flying. The Bird Paradise, located in Tianma Village, Xinhui District, is known for the famous prose Birds’ Paradise by the renowned writer Ba Jin. It is a landmark for ecology and cultural tourism in Jiangmen. Young visitors said hearing the sounds of birds with acoustic resonance and feeling the delights of harmony between the picturesque scenery and nature, they have further understood the deep meaning of the concept “Clear waters and green mountains are as good as mountains of gold and silver” and saw the "model of harmonious coexistence between man and nature" in China in the new era.

Located in Kaiping, the rural demonstration belt, reputed as the “beautiful overseas Chinese hometown and charming world heritage”, is 30 kilometers long, connecting Tangkou, Chikan and Baihe, three world heritage towns, and covering 18 administrative villages. Here, young visitors measured the land with their feet, not only feeling the charm of integrated Chinese and Western cultures, but also experiencing the modern rural scenes featured by strong agriculture, beautiful countryside and rich farmers. Some students said that this trip was unforgettable, and they also wanted to pursue their Chinese dream in overseas Chinese villages, just like Luo Weite, a young man from Hong Kong who initiated the “aquaponics” project.

启超故里难凉热血

梁启超先生是中国近代史上的重要人物，他首提“中华民族”概念，并著有《少年中国说》等名篇。位于新会茶坑村的梁启超故居纪念馆，是梁启超少年时代读书、接受儒家传统教育的地方，回顾了梁启超充满爱国激情和改革精神的一生，体味其跌宕起伏的人生际遇、与时俱进的思想和豁达大度的胸怀，认识其巨大的学术成就和成功的家庭教育方法。

同学们在这里深刻理解了“自强不息，厚德载物”“十年饮冰难凉热血”和“少年智则国智、少年富则国富、少年强则国强”的含义，增强了爱国主义精神和自强不息的民族精神，进一步铸牢了中华民族共同体意识。

中华民族同根同源，两岸三地血浓于水。来自中国香港的暨大学子张家鸣感慨道：“参观梁启超故居，那种属于国人的热血激情砰然迸发，中华好儿郎应当奋起自强，热血向前。此刻，我为自己是一名中国人感到无比骄傲，也更加期待下一次研学活动。”来自中国澳门的暨南大学大一新生陈曼盈说，参观梁启超故居后备受鼓舞，为自己是中国人感到无比骄傲和自豪。来自中国台湾的暨南大学2023级新生张祐伟表示，通过参观梁启超故居，加深对中华民族的认识，坚信两岸同胞在不断交流和互动下，彼此将更加融合在一起，共同创造属于中华儿女的共同愿景。

Inspiring former residence of Liang Qichao

Liang Qichao is an important figure in the modern history of China. He first put forward the concept of "Chinese nation" and wrote famous articles such as “Youths’ China”. The Liang Qichao Former Residence Memorial Hall, located in Chakeng Village, Xinhui, is the place where Liang Qichao studied and received traditional Confucian education in his youth. Young visitors reviewed Liang Qichao's life full of patriotic passion and reform spirit, experienced his course with ups and downs, up-to-date ideology and generous mind, and learned his great academic achievements and successful methods of family education.

Here, students deeply understood the meaning of “Continuous self-improvement and moral support”, “It is difficult to cool hot blood with ten-year ice drinking” and “Bright youths lead to a bright nation, resourceful youths lead to a resourceful nation, and strong youths lead to a strong nation”. This has enhanced their spirit of patriotism and national spirit of continuous self-improvement, and further solidified their sense of community of the Chinese nation.

The Chinese nation shares the same origin, and compatriots from the three regions on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are closely related. Blood is thicker than water. Zhang Jiaming, a Jinan University student from Hong Kong, said with emotion: "Visiting Liang Qichao's former residence is so exciting as to encourage excellent young Chinese people to work hard and move forward enthusiastically. At this moment, I am very proud to be a Chinese, and I am looking forward to my next study tour." Chen Manying, a Jinan University freshman from Macau said that she was inspired after visiting Liang Qichao's former residence and felt extremely proud and honored to be Chinese. Zhang Youwei, a freshman of the 2023 recruiting class at Jinan University from Taiwan, said that the visit to Liang Qichao's former residence has deepened his understanding of the Chinese nation. He firmly believes that with continuous communication and interaction, compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits will further integrate with each other and jointly create a common vision belonging to sons and daughters of the Chinese nation.
